Prof. Irwan Prayitno is an Indonesian politician who served as the governor of West Sumatra from 2010 to 2021. He was elected in both the 2010 and 2015 elections. Before becoming governor, he was a member of Indonesia’s Parliament (DPR-RI) representing West Sumatra for three terms (1999–2014). Born in Yogyakarta, his father was from Padang and his mother from Tanah Datar, West Sumatra. He graduated from SMA Negeri 3 in Padang and studied psychology at the University of Indonesia. He later earned his master’s and PhD from Putra University in Malaysia.
