Dr Hanafi is a lecturer at the Master of Finance in Sustainable Finance Program, Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia, is one of the experts on carbon economy. He is Advisor to Carbon Initiative Indonesia (CII) and Society for Renewable Energy (METI) and Chair on Finance and Carbon Market at Society for Energy Conservation. He has provided consulting and advisory services to government institutions on SDGs as well as for market and corporate sector on ESG.

Currently he involved in Low Carbon Development Initiative with Bappenas; formerly advisor to OJK on digital finance; and developed Indonesian carbon Accounting System (INCAS) and Led Kalimantan Forest Climate Program (KFCP), Advisor to KLHK on Carbon Trading, served at Australian Government Coordinator on Forest Carbon Partnership (IAFCP). He was the Founder Futures Commodity Exchange, Danareksa, PWC, and Standard Chartered Bank.
